The color system: tonic is always red, 2nds are green, 3rds are blue, 4ths are dark green, 5ths are amber, 6ths are dark brown, and 7ths are purple. Flattened degrees run darker/deeper (a ♭3 is a deeper blue, a ♭5 leans brown); sharped degrees run lighter (a ♯5 leans yellow, a ♯4 leans light green) — so you can read a scale's alterations by shade alone. Use the Colors section below to turn any individual degree's color on or off.
