Cedarstone Music Lab (musiclab.cedarstonemusic.com) is a free set of browser-based music practice and theory tools, provided by Cedarstone School of Music ("Cedarstone," "we," "us"). This policy covers Music Lab specifically. It's separate from, and narrower than, the privacy policy for our main site at cedarstonemusic.com, which covers lesson enrollment, text messaging, and other school services Music Lab doesn't involve.
None, by design. Music Lab has no sign-up, no login, no accounts, and no forms that ask for your name, email, or any other personal information. We don't run analytics or advertising scripts on Music Lab, and we don't use tracking cookies.
A few tools remember a preference — for example, whether you've switched to light mode — using your browser's built-in local storage. This:
Some tools — the Chromatic Tuner, Pitch Matcher, and similar ear-training tools — ask for microphone access so they can detect pitch in real time as you play or sing. This audio is processed live, entirely within your browser, purely to analyze pitch. It is never recorded, saved, uploaded, or transmitted anywhere. Your browser will always ask for your explicit permission before any tool can access your microphone, and you can deny or revoke that permission at any time through your browser or device settings.
Music Lab is a static website hosted by a third-party hosting provider (Netlify). Like virtually any website host, the hosting infrastructure may automatically log basic technical request data (such as IP address and request timestamp) for security and operational purposes. We don't access this data for tracking or marketing, and it isn't linked to any information Music Lab itself collects, because Music Lab itself collects none. This is standard infrastructure-level logging, governed by our hosting provider's own policies, not a feature of Music Lab.
Music Lab is built for music students of all ages, including children. Because we don't collect any personal information from any user — of any age — there is no personal data gathered from children that would trigger obligations under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) or similar laws. Parents and teachers can allow students to use Music Lab without providing any information about themselves or their students.
Music Lab links out to our main site (cedarstonemusic.com) and to lesson enrollment pages. Those are separate destinations with their own privacy practices — this policy only covers Music Lab itself.
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Because Music Lab's whole design is to avoid collecting data in the first place, we don't expect this policy to change often or substantially.
